Tooth Extractions in Paradise, NV

man with a toothache in Las VegasIf there were a way to save every damaged or diseased tooth, we would. Unfortunately, things don’t always go as we hope, and sometimes the only option is tooth extraction.

Extractions are one of the many services Dr. Simon Tsang commonly performs as a general dentist. We can take care of most tooth extractions at our comfortable dental office, including impacted wisdom teeth.

Dr. Simon Tsang and the team at Russell Dental know how difficult it can be to hear that you need to have a tooth removed, whatever the circumstance. You can rely on us to provide compassionate, supportive treatment and ensure your procedure is comfortable and stress-free.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Our dentist commonly recommends tooth extraction in the following situations:

  • A decayed tooth is damaged beyond repair.
  • An infected or abscessed tooth cannot be saved with root canal treatment.
  • A tooth broke off below the gumline and must be removed.
  • Wisdom teeth crowd surrounding teeth and put them at risk.
  • An impacted wisdom tooth must be removed.

Sometimes, removing a tooth is necessary when planning other procedures, such as dentures, dental implants, or orthodontic treatment.

Stress-Free Tooth Extraction

Feeling apprehensive about tooth extraction is understandable. Losing a tooth for any reason impacts your life and may stir up many feelings. Our caring dental team will provide whatever support and encouragement you need so that you can focus on your recovery and a healthier smile.

Dr. Tsang plans your tooth removal using an advanced 3-D cone beam CT scan to determine the precise location of the tooth’s roots and surrounding structures. Planning your procedure allows him to work most efficiently so you can get out of the dental chair faster.

Before we begin, we will thoroughly numb the area using a powerful local anesthetic to ensure that you have a pain-free experience. Dr. Tsang then efficiently removes the tooth, and our dental team will instruct you on post-extraction care and recovery at home.

We Remove Impacted Wisdom Teeth

Diagram of teeth in need of extraction in ParadiseWisdom teeth, also called third molars, are a holdover from our ancestors. They needed the extra chewing power to process a diet of coarse twigs, leaves, and hard nuts. Processed foods did away with the need for all that chewing power, and as we've evolved, our jaws have are also smaller.

The result is that there’s not typically enough space in the jaw for wisdom teeth to come in properly. These teeth commonly crowd existing teeth, come in at odd angles, or become impacted or stuck in the gums.

Dr. Tsang commonly recommends removing wisdom teeth and impacted wisdom teeth for our Henderson and Las Vegas patients. Using sophisticated diagnostics and imaging, he identifies the location and position of the impacted tooth and removes it with minimal trauma.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Dr. Tsang offers tooth extraction for erupted wisdom teeth (those that have emerged from the gums) and impacted wisdom teeth (stuck in the gums).

Why Do We Even Have Wisdom Teeth?

You might wonder why we have wisdom teeth if it's so commonly recommended to remove them. Thank your ancestors who needed a third set of molars to chew coarse twigs and plants, hard nuts, and tough meats. Of course, we no longer need that kind of chewing power.

Over time, our jaw shape and size have also changed, so there's not always enough space for wisdom teeth to erupt properly. They get stuck in the gums (impacted) or erupt at odd angles, crowding surrounding teeth and making it difficult to clean them properly.

Comfortable Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Dr. Tsang decides to recommend wisdom tooth extraction on a case-by-case basis. You may be able to keep them if they fully erupt, are healthy, and are positioned correctly.

Before recommending extraction, Dr. Tsang takes x-rays to determine the tooth's position (if impacted), its roots, and surrounding structures. With sophisticated diagnostics and imaging, we can ensure your procedure goes smoothly and have you out of the dental chair before you know it.

Your Las Vegas, NV, dentist may recommend tooth extraction for various reasons. Additionally, some patients choose extraction over treatment.

Let’s explore reasons you might need tooth removal.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last to erupt, coming in years after the final adult teeth. Fortunately, you don’t need them for function or aesthetics. So, if your wisdom teeth don’t erupt properly, cause pain, and put your oral health at risk, your dentist will talk to you about extracting them.

Deep Decay or Injury

Untreated tooth decay can cause your tooth to crumble. Injury may break the tooth. In either case, your dentist may recommend extraction if the tooth cannot be saved with treatment and a dental crown.

As a Pretreatment

Extraction takes place before complete dentures if you have remaining teeth. Additionally, we may have to extract for overcrowding before orthodontics.

About Tooth Extractions

We use anesthesia to ensure your comfort and also supply aftercare instructions to encourage a prompt recovery. If you have questions during aftercare, we encourage you to contact our dental office for guidance.

Panoramic X-Rays

A panoramic dental x-ray shows us your entire mouth in a single image, similar to taking a pano image on your phone. This x-ray provides a flat image of the jaw’s curved structure, including all your teeth, upper and lower jaws, temporomandibular joints (TMJs), and nasal and sinus cavities.

We commonly use panoramic x-rays to diagnose fractures, infections, impacted wisdom teeth, bone abnormalities, cysts, and tumors. These details are invaluable when planning dental implant placement, orthodontic treatment, and wisdom tooth extraction.
